Great question!
As Spray Foam is applied, it expands 130% during the first three to four seconds. If you were to inhale the unexpanded foam during application, it could cause respiratory distress. In order to protect our employees, they are required to wear fresh air masks. The coveralls, gloves, and head coverings simply keep the foam from sticking to clothes, arms, and hair. This allows our employees a quick and easy cleanup!
We believe so!
Smart Seal Foam Insulation is a premium building product and it will add to the cost of building your home. For a typical mortgage on a new house, it will add approximately $9 to $40 a month to your monthly mortgage payment.
However, the savings in energy costs will average from 40 - 60% over traditional insulation. Additionally, there will be significant savings in reduced HVAC size, no need for radiant board, insulated lights or vents.
In remodeling or an addition to an older house, the financial formula is not the same and depends on many other variables associated with the older home. Generally, the break-even point will be around three to five years. After that, the savings will continue to accumulate for the life of your home.
Future increases in energy costs will of course shorten the payback period and dramatically increase overall savings.
NO!
Closed-cell spray foam insulation has been installed to the underside of roof decks for more than 40 years. This is no record of Spray Foam causing wood decking deterioration from roof leaks. In fact, Smart Seal closed-cell foam insulation is water resistant.
Closed cell spray foam seals cracks in the wood deck, so any water that gets past the roofing system stays on top of the wood deck and gravity takes it down to the edge of the building and off the roof.
YES!
Smart Seal closed-cell foam insulation has a perm rating of approximately 1.5- 3.0 per inch and an R-value of approximately 6 per inch.
This combination allows a controlled moisture vapor flow, while separating the inside and outside temperatures. This provides a better control of condensation within the building envelope.
One half-inch to one inch of Smart Seal closed-cell foam insulation is usually sufficient in warm and mixed climates.
